The morning of our first shoot for 2014 was better than expected. There were more than 550 shooters at the meet. It was above freezing and quickly warmed up. There was no wind for the first singles competition of the year. Katie Petersen and Tara Webster tied for first place in the singles. The shootoff was held under the lights and a full moon. Katie won the shootoff. Madison Webster was in third and Anastasia Zuerlein was tied for fourth. Squad Blue was 2 targets out of second place.
Handicaps started under perfect conditions and the first two flights of handicaps had great weather. At 3:00PM a front came through. The wind went to 30-40 miles per hour with gusts of 52 miles per hour being recorded. The temperature dropped 15 degrees in 30 minutes and by evening it was back in the low 30’s. Brutal was the best word to describe the weather conditions. Unfortunately, all of our team shot after the weather changed. Squad Red and squad White tied with Prep’s squad Blue. All of the handicap awards went to shooters in the first two flights. Tara Webster tied for first in the 24-25 yard division.
All of the overall awards also went to shooters who shot before the weather changed. This was a meet where when you shot was more important that how good of a shooter you are.
