Spring sport standouts

Senior Mary Hinrichs is an "all around athlete."  Mary has run track each year she has been at Marian.    "She shows great leadership and is a hard worker," said track coach, Ms. Ronda Motykowski, "a lot of girls look up to her."  Mary has played other sports at Marian, like volleyball and basketball.  However, she likes "to run track because you are against yourself, although there is the team.  I like challenging myself and the adrenaline," said Hinrichs.

Freshman Kara Root isn't intimidated about the upcoming tennis season.  Since she was 5, Root has been perfecting her talent through clinics and private lessons.  During the off-season, she practices six times a week for an hour and a half each day.

Root has high expectations for the upcoming season. "I hope we get at least second in state because Westside is pretty good this year or maybe even take State," she said.  In anticipation for the tennis season, Root said she is just, "ready for it to start."

The Marian soccer team includes an armload of underclassmen, the always present dominating class of juniors, and our one true senior returning for her fourth year of Varsity soccer.   Of all of these girls, it is not easy to choose just one to be deemed outstanding.

Ed Dudley, coach of the Marian soccer team, knows that all of his players will contribute to the team significantly in the upcoming season.

"Overall, the starting 11 could possibly be the strongest part of this team with their speed and toughness," said Dudley.

A surprising factor for the soccer team this season is the fresh talent that came in with the beginning of the school year.

"This is one of the best, if not the best, freshman class to come through Marian in terms of athletic skill.  With the combined upper and lower classmen on the team this could end up being one of the best Marian soccer teams ever," said Dudley.
