The Writing on the Stall

Frannie Maier

Most of us canıt remember the first time we saw something written on the inside of a bathroom stall.

Iım going to go ahead and assume that it was at a mall and said something along the lines of ³Lacy Loves Brad Forever².

Pretty harmless, although it did make me a little curious as to why the bathroom stall was the place for such a thing.

Soon I began to realize that the bathroom stalls were actually quite popular places for messages of this sort. I can even admit to writing on one once or twice.

When out of town, I thought it would be cool to leave my ³mark² in a place where Iıd never visit again, and maybe even my phone number, just to see if anything would happen.

Again, harmless, and all a part of growing up and trying new things, right? Wrong.

Someone, somewhere along the line did the same thing as me, just tried it out.  But after just trying it out, they liked it, they liked it a lot.

Carving in the names of their crushes soon spread to carving in what they planned on doing with their crushes and our imaginations can finish the rest of that one.

Itıs not just the gross things that I find excessive and bothersome, but pretty much all the things that get written.

Is it really necessary? I mean come on, what does someone expect to get out of writing something on a stall?

Theyıll never even see the reaction on the face of the person whoıs reading it, at least I hope not.

All theyıre doing is destroying something thatıs not theirs, and I suppose providing a little entertainment for all of us bathroom-users.

So I guess all Iım saying is that the next time you feel tempted to decorate something thatıs not yours, grab a piece of paper.
