CHICAGO: Choir Makes the Trip

Erin Budd

Once again, the halls are alive with the ³Sound of Music² now that the Select Womenıs Choir has returned from Chicago.

Many of Marianıs golden voices participated in the trip to attend an honorable choir convention known as the ³Festival of Gold.² Twenty-two choirs across the nation that had received gold awards for their vocal achievements were invited to travel to Chicago. Marian girls who attended had to be superior members of the choir for the last two years. The entire Select Womanıs Choir was asked to partake in the trip.

Every year, the trip seems to bring new surprises, but this year happened to be very different from the others. This yearıs music festival was lead by a group of international choral directors. Dr. Doreen Rao, director of the University of Toronto Womanıs Choir and Childrenıs Choir, spent time working with every choir present at the convention in order to share her advice and bring out their best potential. In the end, eight choirs with the most improvement were selected to perform in a vocal concert on April 19th.

The competition was tough, but the Select Womanıs Choir ranked in the upper-half of the convention. They returned late Monday night, their voices still in tune for Districts on Saturday, April 24th.
