Take a Look Into Your Future

Horoscopes are everywhere and millions of people check their personal horoscopes daily. Horoscopes are published in newspapers, magazines and books; they can even be e-mailed to you regularly. It has almost become an obsession. People young and old are using horoscopes as a means to look in to their future, only hoping to better prepare themselves for the inevitable.

“I check my horoscope every single day, then I plan my life around what it says. I feel lost with out it, when something good is supposed to happen I get really excited and when something bad is supposed to happen I try to avoid it as much as possible,” said sophomore Amanda Goodrich who became addicted to her horoscope when she signed up for a hotmail account that gave her the option to have her horoscope e-mailed to her daily.

”I don’t really focus on avoiding everything,” said senior Liz Wurgler who also checks her horoscope as often as possible, “but I always keep in mind what my horoscope said just in case something happens, so when it does, at least I know it happened for a reason.”

Horoscopes and astrology began with the ancient Greeks some thousands of years ago. It began as an efficient way to know the right time to plant and to harvest their crops.

Later, horoscopes and astrology evolved into the belief that the position of the sun and the planets also had an affect on a person's life and future events that may happen to them. Some astrologers believed that a horoscope would not predict the future but would only predict possible influences planets can have on a person's life.

Horoscopes and astrology as we know today, have stayed popular due to various factors, but mainly because society is just so curious about what exactly the future holds.

”It’s just nice to know how each month or day is going to lay out. Most importantly, I think it’s cool to see how each planet is supposed to effect my love life,” said Wurgler.

Since then, horoscopes have evolved from many stages and have even made an attempt to become an acceptable method for society to get a closer look at what the stars hold for them.

Through the eyes of some Christians as well as many of their higher ups, there is no such thing as a “Christian astrology”. In fact, many Christians do not even believe that people should even read their horoscopes.

Some avid believers of horoscopes and astrology question that unwritten policy, being that the bible appears to make references to astrology, insinuating that in biblical time it was acceptable.

A person's horoscope, or birth chart, depends on the time of the calendar year in which they were born. One calendar year is made up of 12 sections, which make up the zodiac.

Each section is given a zodiac sign. The zodiacs represent 12 constellations. To the left, is how you can find out what your sign is, along with a few positive and negative characteristics of your sign.

If you were born between March 21 and April 19: Aries. Arians are said to be confident and intelligent. They are also said to be impatient and selfish. If you were born between April 20 and May 20: Taurus. Taureans are said to be dependable and loyal. They are also said to be stubborn and self-indulgent. If you were born between May 21 and June 20: Gemini. Geminis are said to be harmonious and agreeable. They are also said to be fickle and gossipy. If you were born between June 21 and July 22: Cancer. Cancers are said to be sensitive and protective. They are also said to be moody and shrewd. If you were born between July 23 and Aug. 22: Leo. Leos are said to be honest and brave. They are also said to be braggers. If you were born between Aug. 23 and Sept. 22: Virgo. Virgos are said to be modest and hardworking. They are also said to be irritable and sloppy.

If you were between Sept. 23 and Oct. 22: Libra. Librans are said to be charming and romantic. They are also said to be flirty and overbearing. If you were born between Oct. 23 and Nov. 22: Scorpio. Scorpions are said to be good concentrators. They are also said to be secretive and unnerving. If you were born between Nov. 23 and Dec. 21: Sagittarius. Sagittarians are said to be optimistic and adaptable. They are also said to be short-tempered and indulgent. If you were born between Dec. 22 and Jan. 19: Capricorn. Capricorns are said to be realistic and cautious. They are also said to be egotistical and critical. If you were born between Jan. 20 and Feb. 19: Aquarius. Aquarians are said to be cooperative and thoughtful. They are also said to be rude and insecure. If you were born between Feb. 20 and March 20: Pisces. Pisceans are said to be caring and helpful. They are also said to be dependent and blameful towards others.
