Driver’s Ed prepares students for the real road

It’s no differential equation. Freedom equals car, and car equals Drivers Ed.  Fortunately, Cornhusker Driving School can solve any driving problems.

Cornhusker Driving School consists of 20 hours of classroom instruction at Marian followed by three to five hours of one-on-one driving time, depending on the experience level of the driver.  To fulfill the State of Nebraska requirements since January 1, 1999 for students 15-17 years of age, a young driver can take an approved Drivers Ed course, like Cornhusker Driving School, or log driving hours with a driver or 18 years of age or older in order to receive a provisional driver’s license.

Dr. Pat Vendetti is the primary instructor at Cornhusker Driving School.  He is somewhat of a legend in the Drivers Ed community, teaching young drivers since 1966.  Vendetti strongly encourages all beginning drivers to take some sort of a Drivers Ed course.  “Drivers Ed puts kids in a classroom setting and discusses images and events just driving with parents won’t teach you,” said Vendetti.

During Vendetti’s course, the law, as it relates to the driver, is carefully reviewed.  The student enrolled in Cornhusker Driving School’s state certified program can also expect driving information presented in a format so that all students can put into practice the knowledge acquired.

In addition to the textbook; photographs, tests, driver education pamphlets, scenarios, and magazines are provided for a more descriptive learning experience.

Vendetti also discusses the new issues effecting young drivers today, such as the proposal in the Nebraska legislature to raise the driving age to 18.  “People think there is too much inexperience in young drivers today…I think we should try to make [younger] drivers better and more educated first.  But I do believe raising the driving age would decrease accidents and deaths with motor vehicles,” said Vendetti.

Cornhusker Driving School costs $300 and is offered June 1-4, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Marian.  To sign up, go to www.cornhuskerdriving.com to register for the summer course.  With a long history of creating safe and responsible drivers, this is one class that will leave it’s student with life long lessons.
