Favorite thing about Marian:

“Every morning I plan the day, I get here, and it doesn’t happen.  There is a lot of variety.  I like being around the girls.  It keeps me young.  The atmosphere of Marian is more caring, like a big family, and you don’t find that in the private sector.  Everyone cares here.  Also, working for Miss Kish, she is wonderful to work for.”

Singleton grew up in Smith Center, Kan.  After high school, she wanted to go to Secretarial School but went to beauty school in Hastings because her best friend wanted to. “Don’t let your friends dictate you future.  Do what you want and desire,” said Singleton.

However, had she not gone to beauty school, Singleton would not have met her husband, Roy.  She has been married for 41 years.  Her husband is a retired civil engineer who currently administrates the SAME program for this area.  She has three children and six grandchildren.

When her daughter went to kindergarten, Mrs. Singleton was “sitting watching Captain Kangaroo by myself, when I realized something was wrong.”  She then began to go to night classes at UNO.  After 20 years of night classes, she graduated in 1993 with a teaching business degree.

Mrs. Singleton then taught business for four years at Nebraska College of Business before coming to Marian.
