Inside the Easter Bunnyıs Head

Grace Rudersdorf and Cara Smith

Most studentsı jobs consist of being a cashier at a local deli or ice cream shop. However, our job involves something a little more out of the ordinary.  Our job is dressing up as the Easter Bunny at Westroads Mall.

Bunny 1 (Grace): Hey Cara!  How was work last night?

Bunny 2 (Cara): UmmŠit was good.  It got really hot though, and this little girl attempted to pull my tail off.

B1: That is so funny!  Whatıd you say to her?

B2: I canıt talk, silly! Iım the Easter Bunny!

B1: Well, I talk when Iım the Easter Bunny.

B2: Well, if I talk, then the kids will know Iım a girl.

B1: So?  The Easter Bunny doesnıt have to be a boy.  Why is it always assumed that the Easter Bunny is a 40 year-old man?  Why canıt it be a 17 year-old girl?

B2: (Gasp) Seriously, youıre right.  Every time a kid comes up to me, the parents always say, ³Donıt be scared of him.  The Easter Bunny is nice.²  But little do they know, that the eyes peering through the screened mouth are those of a 17 year-old Marian girl!

B1: Yeah, I just love waving to random people I donıt know.  They get all excited and wave back, begging their mom or dad to get their picture taken with the Easter Bunny.

B2: But do you know what is really funny?  When older people get their picture taken.  I have had people anywhere from their teenage years all the way to 60 year-olds.

B1: Yeah, but it makes me sad when some people canıt afford to take their picture with me because itıs so expensive.  The cheapest picture you can get is $12.99 and itıs only a 5x7 in a decorated paper frame.

B2: Wow, that is really sad.  The only reason they charge so much is because they have to pay for all the material.

B1: And they have to pay all the employees for working, which is $7.25 per hour.  And I donıt think they could find anyone else who would sit in a hot, claustraphobic bunny costume while screaming children sit on your lap and get paid less than that.

B2: Thank Goodness there is a fan that blows cool air into the mouth.

Otherwise, I think I would die from heat stroke.

B1: Well I better get going.  The oversized bunny head is calling my name.

B2: Alright, see ya later.  Have a Hoppy Easter!

Yes, this is true.  Juniors Cara Smith and Grace Rudersdorf along with Megan and Katie McLeay are all Easter Bunnies at Westroads Mall.  Many may ask why they would want to be the Easter Bunny.  ³Its not as bad as you think.  Itıs pretty good money and all you do is sit there and wave,² says Katie McLeay.

Junior Kylie Talacko is the Easter Bunny photographer.  She says, ³Itıs so funny to see my friends dress up in a huge Easter Bunny costume.²  Kylie was also one of Santaıs helper in the holiday season and helped the girls get the Easter Bunny job.  Although Easter is over, these girls still carry on the Bunny spirit.  They will never forget the funny memories they had dressing up as the Easter Bunny.
